From Sept. 13 to Oct. 3, 2008, a team led by David Thistle, professor of biological oceanography at Florida State probed little-explored sea beds off the west coast searching for a better understanding of the diversity and geographic range of tiny, but important, bottom-loving populations of crustaceans called harpacticoid copepods. This 21-day research mission was made possible by a grant from the National Science Foundation and the facilities of the Moss Landing Marine Laboratory in California, home of the 135-foot research vessel Point Sur.
